Design Engineer

Job summary:

You are responsible for the design, development, implementation and analysis of technical products, processes and systems and the optimization of existing products, processes and/or systems. In addition, you make proposals for adjustments to existing products and/or processes that improve quality and/or reduce costs.

Your responsibilities:

• Developing new products, materials and processes for transport applications worldwide, within the CFI process (Customer Focused Innovation process) where quality, innovative character, reliability and cost efficiency are of great importance;
• Execute, supervise, document and monitor projects in the field of new products and materials in close collaboration with Product Management;
• Monitoring and following up on projects, especially in the design and detailing phase (Stages 2 & 3);
• Developing 3D models and technical drawings including all necessary technical data for tool design and/or manufacturing engineering;
• Carrying out the first Mold Flow studies for product optimization (process, specifications and costs) before starting tool design and to support the tool designers;
• Carrying out FEM studies for the virtual validation of new or optimized products;
• Studying patents and drawing up inventor declarations for new applications;
• Delivering a manufacturable, assembleable, controllable, packable, transportable, installable, repairable functional product;
• Drawing up (possibly developing) and carrying out internal and external (Beta) tests for the validation of new or modified products, with or without customers at home and abroad, and recording and processing the results into a test report;
• Commercial technical support of the Customer Service, Sales and Application Engineering departments. This includes contributing to problem analyzes at existing customers;
• Technical support of production, assembly and quality service;
• Proactive attitude in making proposals for process improvements;
• Actively participate in periodic consultations such as PPM meetings, Test Spray Meetings, project progress meetings, etc.;
• Taking care of the production of 3D printed products in-house or via an external supplier;
• Drawing up and maintaining technical product specifications of the existing production package;
• Setting up, managing and controlling the “material master” within the SAP ERP package of the products developed and produced in the Netherlands in collaboration with the DTO (Design To Order) department;
• Developing new materials in collaboration with a material supplier.

What do we ask of you?

• Technical education towards HBO Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent working and thinking level;
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience. Typically 4 years of relevant work experience is required to perform the position well;
• Familiar with techniques, processes and procedures common in the industry;
• Willing to take relevant additional training/courses;
• At least 2 years of experience using 3D CAD systems, preferably PTC Creo;
• Performs a variety of complex tasks;
• Typically works independently with minimal supervision and consults with supervisor when necessary;
• Production-oriented and quality-conscious attitude;
• Able to work analytically, accurately and systematically;
• Good command of the Dutch and English language, spoken and written;
• Willing to work overtime in good consultation;
• Creative and flexible;
• Good communication skills, both internally and with customers and suppliers
• Commercial and cost-efficient thinking
